Before his concert this Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Papillons de nuit, Caen rapper Orelsan was the guest at a meeting proposed by the Association régionale des savoir-faire d’excellence normands, in Saint-Laurent-de-Cuves (Sud-Manche).
A few hours before his concert, Orelsan took the time to chat, on Saturday afternoon, June 5, 2019, at the “Nœud pap” space of the Papillons de nuit festival, in Saint-Laurent-de-Cuves (Sud-Manche). The meeting was organized by the Association régionale des savoir-faire d’excellence normands, and the discussion led by Luc Lesénécal, head of Saint-James, a Manche-based company.
The 30-minute discussion focused on Normandy’s artistic sector, from music to textiles. “I was born in Alençon (Orne), lived in Caen and then Paris, before coming back to Caen,” Orelsan explained, resituating his links. “I come from here. My family name is Cotentin! A region that inspires the rapper: “For the song Défaite de famille, I took a few memories from Sées (Orne). When you’re telling the story of a character, it’s good to know where he or she comes from.”

Orelsan comes to Saint-Laurent-de-Cuves for the third time. “Festivals are growing, not necessarily in big cities. I didn’t experience that when I was young in Caen, even though there was already the Cargo or the BBC. It’s good to show that there are other places than Paris and other settings.”
